Well after a hiatus for a few months we are back playing, seriously you do not know how tough it was to stop for a while. As mentioned Alison has been having some complications after a wisdom teeth operation, and I managed to fulfil a long time dream of going to Central America. Well I am back and whilst Al isn’t back to 100% yet we are playing shows and fingers crossed she will have made a full recovery soon!

We played two gigs in the last week – one at Sounds from the Other City where our night This City Is Ours co-curated a stage with our brethren from the Mind on Fire Collective. All the bands smashed it and was a really fun day, and for us to get back playing after such a long while was massive. Sharing a stage with Shigeto and Lapalux was amazing as well.

We then did a gig for the charity Habit for Humanity. A friend is travelling to Mozambique in November to help build housing / infrastructure, a great cause and something I think we should all really consider doing at some point in our lives. We played with Cyril Snear and Trojan Horse, with Borland and our mate Phil Kirkley DJing. I hope money was made and that everyone who came down to show their support had a good time – THANK YOU!

These two gigs were a bit of an experiment for us to see if we were actually able to play live - if you were there I think you will agree, Alison is the bomb, and the smile on her face after the gigs was something that I personally was super happy to see!

So now we are looking forward to a summer of fests and finishing off tunes. Dates announced so far are:

June 2nd – Beached Festival, Manchester (Blood Boy DJ set)
June 4th – Eurocultured Festival, Manchester
June 24th – The Ruby Lounge, Manchester (w./ *Shels)
June 30th – Beatherder Festival, Lancashire
July 21st – Tramlines Festival, Sheffield

We have music for like 15 tunes at the moment – so we are starting to focus on the songs that we think will definately make it on the album and we intend to slip a couple into the set for these gigs. Eurocultured is the next one for us and we are SO up for it. Hopefully see you there!

Muchos Love,
Kites x

Quiet on the outside….

Hey,
So we know things are looking pretty quiet for us at the moment, and there are couple of reasons for that which we just wanna let you know about.

So first up Alison had some problems with her wisdom tooth extraction at the end of last year, and hasn’t been able to do very much with it basicly turning into jaw surgery, hence no singing or very little else for that matter. She is finally on the mend, but we don’t want to tempt fate, so our next live show won’t be until our Sounds From The Other City show on May 6th.

Also, Luke has left the Sunny MCR climes for the, well, much sunnier climes of South America and won’t be back til the middle of April.

Saying this, shit is pretty cray still. We have just finished putting together the This City Is Ours/Mind On Fire line up for our stage at Sounds From The Other City this year, and it looking ILL! Check the full line up here, and snap those tickets up!! :

http://soundsfromtheothercity.com/stages/mind-on-fire-this-city-is-ours-old-pint-pot-upstairs-downstairs/
We also finally got around to recording the track Undoneath, and this has been featured on the “Thirty One Songs” compilation alongside some new MCR tallent s well as tracks from the big boys, such as Noel Gallagher and Elbow.
The album was put together by the Factory Foundation, and all tracks were chosen by Dave Haslam.
All proceeds form the album go to CALM, a charity that means a lot to us, so go check it out, and please purchase:

http://www.thirtyonesongs.com/

On top of all that, our album is coming together nicely, and we hope to have it out after the summer, and we already have some European shows and festivals booked from May onwards, which we will be announcing pretty soon.

Anyways, much love for the support X

2012

Happy New Year people!

We saw it in at our This City Is Ours NYE party at a secret venue it Manchester. Was ALOT of fun. Too much for some people! (Well the after party hehe) Massive thanks to Martin for letting us use his space - maybe if we are really nice to him he will let us do something there again!

People seem to be liking the Mitochondria EP - much love to everyone that has bought it! Really is gonna help us finance our album so means a lot to us. We also put out the remixes that we were asked to do for people this year on what we have called VERSIONS. If you havent so far check out them out:
(For some reason wont let me embed the player so click the link!!!)

Various Artists - Versions (From the Kites of San Quentin remixes)

2012 will see the release of our debut album - something we are massively excited about! Seems that we are finally getting towards where we want to be with the bands music so cant wait to share it!

Unfortunately Alison has had some complications from having her wisdom teeth out so she cant sing at the moment :( So we are going to make sure that she is 100% again before we get back playing.

The beginning part of this year is going to continue in full on album writing mode, but we already have a couple of REALLY exciting things to announce which are going to surface over the next two months, and the Summer is already starting to look good!

So 2012 is looking like its gonna be fun - hope it is for all of you too x

MITOCHONDRIA EP OUT TODAY!!!

WOW!

What a weekend! The gig at the Church was just amazing! Huge thanks to Capac/Neko Neko/Borland/GREEEG/EMAN/Him Hallows/Julia Wonderhaus/Dead Pheasant/Gash Soundsystem/Rev Andy and Colin/Everyone who came down or talked about it. Seemed like a real collective effort - the amount of people helping us pimp the gig was awesome! Really really appreciated - and we felt extremely proud that we managed to pull it off! It really was one I will remember for ever.

Then PARTY at Centro on Saturday - huge thanks to Manni Dee for playing! Robb and I seem to have a new TCIO tradition of drinking too many shots… Stoopid but fun! All the TCIO residents had a blast! Props to our Egyptian security guard as well :)

The Mitochondria EP is out today on our very own This City Is Ours Records. You can pay what you like for it. To everyone who contributed to the record we LOVE you in an unhealthy, slightly obsessive kind of way. We are super glad to have the tunes out there. Hope you enjoy!

Literally gonna hit send and go back in the studio to carry on writing the album - fun times! xxx

A bit of a vid of our trip to SOUNDWAVE in Croatia! Lessons learned: Dont film whilst walking. Don’t film whilst pissed.
